From discrepancy to money back: how to file a claim that gets results
A discrepancy found is only money recovered once the marketplace acknowledges it. How to structure a claim that is taken seriously — and the deadlines within which you must act.
Speed matters: claim windows
Almost every marketplace has a deadline within which you can dispute a settlement — often 30 to 90 days after payout. After that, even a crystal-clear error is practically unrecoverable. The first question for every discrepancy found is therefore not 'how much' but 'until when'.
The anatomy of a strong claim
Marketplace support handles thousands of tickets. A claim that can be assessed within a single screen wins: order number, date, what was expected, what was actually settled, the difference, and the evidence (export line, tracking data, return confirmation). One issue per claim; group only identical errors of the same type at most.
- Cite the contractual basis: the agreed commission rate or the payment deadline.
- Attach the evidence, do not just promise it.
- Record every claim and every response — patterns across months are themselves evidence.
Follow-up and escalation
Expect one to three responses before a claim is approved. If a structural error (such as an incorrect commission rate) keeps recurring, escalate from the individual claim to account management with an overview of all cases — that conversation is about the pattern, not about the individual euros.
Let the checks run automatically from now on.
